Fear of Change
We all have different reasons to our Mind chatter and in my case it’s mostly excuses due to fear of change. We know we need to change, we sort of want to… And yet most of us generally don’t.
It lead me to a spiral of negativity, always expecting the worse and actually not taking the actions I would need to avoid some unnecessary hassle. If I keep doing that long enough. Then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy and we end up creating the issues we wanted to avoid.
I was the “Problem Finder”
Yes, that was me actually, in my original mindset. You could tell me of any plan and you’ll be sure that I’ll come up with all the reasons and ways it would not work… So basically I was the person to go to if you didn’t want to do something. 🙂
The issue was that we’re our first advisor so I was not “naturally” the most going-forward person. I was planning and then all these nagging thoughts were coming directly, convincing me that there was no point in trying anything. There was always such a risk, it was sort of bound to fail anyway. So it lead me nowhere but where I already was. 🙂
In a way, I had found the perfect recipe for immobility… The only problem the other people don’t wait for us. So I just ended up more and more behind as time passed by. It’s the reason why it had to change and I’m still working on it as I write this.
The great thing with our thinking is that we can change it! We often feel that we can’t but it’s just another thought. 🙂
And when it comes to changing your thinking, you have basically two options, let’s see.
The 2 Ways to Effectively Change
Forceful Mindset Change
Here, you opt for Conscious Change and you grind your way out of your current Mindset or Habit! It’s tough as hell but it comes with an amazing feeling of Power and Pride when you manage it. It’s the stoic way basically, you’re in charge.
And with constant reminders and efforts, you eventually rewire your brain and create a new and more positive thoughts patterns.
In summary, Conscious Change has the following pros and cons.
– It requires more will power and consistency.
– It can be discouraging.
+ Once achieved, it’s a long term change.
+ It offers a big boost in Self-Esteem.
Belief or Perspective Change
This one is more subtle, the goal is to change the motivator behind this mindset or behavior and you can do it fast with hypnosis or coaching or on your own with introspection, by asking yourself strategic questions. They will depend on the situation but basically you’re looking at peeling your understanding so that you can have a fresh look at the issue.
- What do I need to believe to think or act like that?
- What could be another reason for this?
- What else could this mean?
- What would I need to believe to change this?
In summary, Belief or Perspective Change has the following pros and cons.
– We have less control on it happening, it’s like a more a Haha moment, it happens when it happens.
+ Here too it’s long term change.
+ It does not require as much will power.
Back to me, what did I do?
As I said earlier, I got bored of it! So I decided to change. first I took responsibility and stopped blaming the world or others. No change ever happens if it’s not us so that’s the first step.
Then I opted for a mix of both methods, I did some self-work and I’m now consciously guiding myself to look for more positive outlooks.
Of course I used hypnosis as it’s a great way to find the issue behind the issue, and I’m now actively reframing in order to change my perception.
Talking about hypnosis, I have to admit that I’m not the most responsive of subjects, like a lot of my colleagues it appears. It takes more efforts for me to go deep. I wish I am like my clients, it looks so easy for them.
And in my everyday life, my goal is to be more Present and to catch myself as it happens. It’s tough at first but we get better and better as we do it and it’s so nice seeing the positive change in our life as we get better and better at it.
I also don’t want to totally cancel it as it’s clearly a safety mechanism, it would probably not be good to venture in anything that presents to me or crosses my mind.
So I guess I won’t open that vegan restaurant for chihuahuas after all. 🙂
